NSF- and DOD-Funded Research Improving Prosthetic Technology
At UC Davis, Professor Jonathon Schofield works to make prosthetic arms feel and function more like a natural part of the body. His federally funded research brings together engineering, medicine and advancing sensors to help people who are missing an upper limb have more natural control and movement.
Helping Humanity
Without continued federal funding, these breakthroughs would stall and people would lose access to life-changing prosthetic innovation that significantly improve quality of life. This funding supports the testing of new devices, advances clinical care and drives the development of technologies that help individuals return to work, school and daily life with greater confidence and independence.
"Our work helps people use prosthetics as a natural part of their body, and that progress cannot continue without federal funding.” – Jonathon Schofield, Ph.D.
