Deferred enrollment for admitted students

Newly admitted undergraduate students may request to defer their enrollment to UC Davis for up to one year. To apply, students must first submit their Statement of Intent to Register, or SIR. We must receive all official transcripts and exam scores before you apply for a deferral. Deferrals are not guaranteed and are approved on a case-by-case basis. Students approved for a deferral may not enroll in coursework at another college or university during the deferral period. The deadline to apply is the first day of the quarter for which you were admitted.

UC Davis applicants

  • I have questions about submitting my official transcripts and exam scores to UC Davis, who do I contact?
  • Contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Myadmissions or Ask an Advisor.

  • What are the rules to keep my deferment status in good standing?
  • Students are not allowed to enroll in any coursework at another accredited college or university during this time. Students should satisfy all university admission and entrance requirements. They must also provide all official final transcripts and examination scores before they request to defer their enrollment.

  • Can I defer my enrollment longer than one year if I have to serve in my country’s military?
  • In some cases, we are able to approve an extended deferral of enrollment for students compelled to serve their country’s military. We advise students to complete the deferral request form and share details about their expected duty in these cases.
