Major requirements for the College of Letters and Science

Students who apply for transfer admission to selective majors are required to complete major preparation courses and meet additional course and GPA requirements.

Students need to take all courses for a letter grade with no grade less than C and complete all major preparatory course requirements by the end of spring term prior to their fall enrollment. The Department Agreements as published on ASSIST are also important documents. Reference them in conjunction with the major agreements as needed.

Selective major requirements 

UC Davis requires a minimum 2.80 GPA for admission. Transfer Admission Guarantee, or TAG, for the College of Letters and Science requires at least a 3.20 GPA for all majors.

Transfer students are encouraged to complete as many major preparation courses listed under other major requirements prior to transfer as shown on the ASSIST website.

Some majors in the College of Letters and Science have additional transfer requirements:


Applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematical analytics and operations research, and mathematical and scientific computation 

  • Complete the courses below and maintain a 3.00 GPA across the entire group:
    • Mathematics (MAT) 021A/B/C/D
    • Mathematics (MAT) 022A or 027A or 067
    • Mathematics (MAT) 022B or 027B

Applied Physics and physics

  • Complete the courses below and maintain a 3.00 GPA across the entire group:
    • Physics (PHY) 009A/B/C/D or 009HA/HB/HC/HD/HE
    • Mathematics (MAT) 021A/B/C/D
    • Mathematics (MAT) 022A/B

Data science

  • Complete the courses below and maintain a 3.20 GPA across the entire group:
    • Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 032A
    • Mathematics (MAT) 021 A/B/C
    • Mathematics (MAT) 022A
    • Statistics (STA) 013 or 035A

Economics

  • Complete the courses below and maintain a 2.50 GPA across the entire group:
    • Mathematics (MAT) 017A/B or 019A/B or 021A/B
    • Economics (ECN) 001A/B

Psychology

  • Complete the courses below and maintain a 2.90 GPA across the entire group:
    • Psychology (PSY) 001
    • Statistics (STA) 013
    • Choose one of the following options:
      • Biological Science (BIS) 002A
      • Biological Science (BIS 010 and one courses below:
        • Anthropology (ANT) 001
        • Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) 010
        • Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior (NPB) 010

NOTE: Biological Science 2A is highly recommended for students who want to pursue a BS with a biological emphasis.


Statistics

  • Complete the courses below and maintain a 3.00 GPA across the entire group:
    • Mathematics (MAT) 017A/B/C or 019A/B/C or 021A/B/C
      • Note: The Statistics major has four tracks: Applied (A.B. or B.S.), General (B.S.), Machine Learning (B.S.) and Statistical Data Science (B.S.). Students who pursue the General, Machine Learning or Statistical Data Science tracks are required to take Mathematics 021A/B/C. The 021 series is also recommended for the Applied track.
