A campus WarnMe message sent today (Aug. 21) as part of an active shooter exercise was inadvertently sent to some recipients without being labeled as a drill.
UC Davis promptly sent a follow up Aggie Alert to all employees and students correcting the error. We apologize for any distress caused and we are reviewing how this came about.
The original message was sent at 9:02 A.M. and intended for a limited group of emergency services staff. It appears that some additional recipients got it through the Nixle alerting service, but the SMS text message lacked the word ‘drill.’ A linked message did say that the event was a drill.
UC Davis police and fire departments are training for a mass casualty incident at the Activities and Recreation Center this week. The final day of training is tomorrow, Friday Aug. 22, from 7 A.M. until 1 P.M.
