Updated May 28: A student organized vigil will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday (May 29) on the Quad "to show our support and love to those who have been affected by this tragic event." The organizers are asking people to bring battery-powered candles. More information is available here.

Flags at all UC facilities are flying at half-staff through June 1 in honor of the victims.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and the entire UCSB community," Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi wrote in a message to the campus community on May 27. She asked students, faculty and staff to pause at 4 p.m. that day, to “stand together in the spirit of unity with our sister campus in Santa Barbara and take a moment to reflect on those affected by this tragedy.”

The message included information on resources available for students, faculty and staff who may be in need. The Student Health and Wellness Center has counselors available 24 hours a day by phone at (530) 752-0871. For employees, the Academic and Staff Assistance Program, or ASAP, provides counseling services for faculty, staff and families. ASAP can be reached at (530) 752-2727.

The campus issued this statement on May 24: UC Davis joins others in their sorrow over the loss of seven lives near the UC Santa Barbara campus last evening. While details remain unclear, we echo the sentiments of grief and shock that UC President Janet Napolitano expressed earlier today. On behalf of Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi and the entire UC Davis community, we wish our sister campus and the surrounding communities comfort and healing. No matter what the circumstances, the loss of the seven young people is a tragedy for their families, the community and all of us now and in the future who base our hopes and aspirations on their well being and success. We extend condolences to the families and friends of all those who passed.
