The heat? It’s going down over the holidays.

Coffee? It will be on most of the time.

Buses? Unitrans and the shuttle to and from the medical center will be on reduced schedules, and the Davis-Berkeley shuttle, unlike in previous years when it shut down over the holidays, will keep running (and will even add service on two Saturdays).

Thermostats will be set back, where appropriate, as an energy-saving measure, from next Friday evening, Dec. 21, until Wednesday morning, Jan. 2. So, if you are working, remember to dress appropriately for what may be a chilly office.

Campus safety and emergencies

The Police Department will be fully staffed, but officers are asking everyone who is here to help keep an eye on things. If you see anything suspicious, call 911 or (530) 752-1230.

Final exams end today (Dec. 14), which means most students have left or will be leaving for the holidays. Three popular coffee outlets, Swirlz Bakery (in the Coffee House), the ARC Starbucks and the Silo Starbucks, will remain open through Dec. 21, and the Silo Starbucks will also be open Dec. 26 to 28.

UC Davis-UC Davis Medical Center shuttle

The weekday shuttle will operate on a reduced schedule Dec. 17-28, and there will be no service at all on the four administrative holidays: Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 24-25, and Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

The reduced shuttle schedule, from the medical center to the Davis campus:

• Departs medical center — 6:20, 7:10, 8:10 and 11:10 a.m., and 3:10, 4:10 and 5:15 p.m.
• Departs Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts — 6:45, 7:35, 8:35 and 11:35 a.m., and 3:35, 4:35 and 5:35 p.m.
• Departs Lot 56 (Health Sciences District) — 6:50, 7:40, 8:40 and 11:40 a.m., and 3:40, 4:40 and 5:40 p.m.
• Arrives Silo Terminal — 6:55, 7:45, 8:45 and 11:45 a.m., and 3:45, 4:45 and 5:45 p.m.

The reduced shuttle schedule, from the Davis campus to the medical center:

• Departs Silo Terminal — 7:10, 8:10 and 9:10 a.m., and 12:10, 4:10, 5:10 and 6:10 p.m.

Davis-Berkeley shuttle

This four-times-a-day shuttle will operate Monday through Saturday during winter break, except on the four administrative holidays: Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

The shuttle normally shuts down for winter break, and never runs on Saturdays. But a recent survey of riders indicated a desire for shuttle service during the holiday break and on Saturdays, so Fleet Services (which runs the shuttle) is giving it a try.

Therefore, the shuttle will be up and running Dec. 22, 26, 27, 28 and 29. Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 2. A decision will be made later on whether to continue Saturday service.

Departure and arrival times remain the same: Depart UC Davis — 7:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. (all arriving at UC Berkeley approximately 90 minutes later).
