Farm-to-College Night
Rainy weather has forced a change of location for today's Farm-to-College Night, a biannual event open to the campus community and the general public. The new location is The Pavilion at the Activities and Recreation Center.
Dining Services plans a menu featuring sustainably produced, locally grown and humanely raised components — all as a means to showcase the university's sustainable food system.
Farm-to-College Night is scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., with no RSVPs required. The cost is $12.50 for the all-you-can-eat dinner, or $10 for UC Davis employees with identification or a Staff Assembly pin.
Employees and visitors will be dining among the students who normally would be eating their dinner in the Segundo or Tercero Dining Commons.
Besides the meal, Farm-to-College Night will include educational activities and opportunities to explore the origins of the campus food supply.
The menu includes:
- Endive Boats with Halibut and Brown Rice
- Beef Barbacoa or Seitan Fajitas
- Fresh Green Salad with Chicken or Tofu
- Natural BBQ Pork Sandwiches
- Fresh Veggie or Cheese Omelets
- Locally Grown Strawberries
- Gunther's’ Ice Cream
- Harvest Bakery Lemon Cornmeal Cookies
- Harvest Bakery Fair Trade Chocolate Brownies
- Strawberry and Mint Infused Water

Wine for Barbecue ...
The last Wednesday Night Wine Flight of the 2010-11 academic year is set for today (June 1), with a theme of Wines for Barbecue.
“Whether it’s ribs that need a big zinfandel to really sing or a zingy sauvignon blanc to pair with grilled salmon, we’ll share a lineup that makes the most of the outdoor, deck grillin’ and patio sittin’ season.”
The wine tasting is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Gunrock Pub (on the south side of the Silo). The cost is $10, and no reservations are needed.
Wednesday Night Wine Flights, sponsored by the Gunrock Pub and the Vintage Aggies Wine Club, are scheduled the first Wednesday of the month — with the next one after tonight set for Oct. 5.
... and wine on film (and for tasting)
The Center for Wine Economics at the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science announced a screening of Dinastia Vivanco: Giving Back to Wine What Wine Has Given Us.
Zev Robinson, who made the documentary about the wine, wineries and winemakers of Dinastia Vivanco in Rioja, Spain, will participate in a discussion after the screening, the organizers said.
The screening is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, June 10, in the RMI’s Sensory Theatre. The organizers said snacks will be served, and people 21 and older will be invited to taste Rioja wines. Admission is free, with registration required (this can be accomplished online).
Robinson’s documentary traces the contributions of four generations to the winery, which originated in 1915. The last two generations have built a wine museum that some people consider the finest in the world, reflecting the family’s passion for wine culture and philosophy of “giving back to wine what wine has given us.”
