Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi presides next week at the Fall Convocation, on the topic of “Building Our Future” — making sure our students, faculty and staff are always at the forefront in addressing the needs of society, at home, around the nation and around the world.
This ceremonial start to the new academic year will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 22) in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. All are welcome: faculty, students and staff (release time for staff is appropriate with supervisory approval), community members and other UC Davis friends.

Chancellor Katehi is joined on the speakers program by Rep. Doris Matsui of Sacramento; Michael Lairmore, dean, School of Veterinary Medicine; André Knoesen, chair, Academic Senate; and Harris Lewin, vice chancellor, Office of Research.
Ralph J. Hexter, provost and executive vice chancellor, will be the master of ceremonies. Students will participate in the music portion of the program, featuring a chamber chorus and marimba duo.
A reception with refreshments will follow, until noon, on the Vanderhoef Quad.
The reception also will include displays: renderings of campus construction projects, underway and coming soon, showing the physical side of “Building Our Future.”
