Updated June 29: An update to the release reflects a change in the panelist from India for July 2 and the addition of a panelist from Sorbonne University in France for July 9.

Leaders from universities in New Zealand, India and Japan will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the future of international education in an online forum Thursday, July 2.

The third in a series of five live conversations with educational leaders from about a dozen countries, the panel will include:

• Harlene Hayne, vice-chancellor of the University of Otago in New Zealand
• Yutake Maeda, vice president and dean of the Division of International Affairs at Kansai University in Japan
• C. Raj Kumar, vice chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, India

The series, “The Future of International Education: Leadership Perspectives From Around the World,” is co-hosted by the Institute of International Education, or IIE, and the University of California, Davis. See the series news release.  

The regional panel on Asia and Oceania will begin at 6 p.m. PDT (July 3 at 1 a.m. UTC). Allan Goodman, president of the IIE, will moderate the discussion.

The conversations continue July 9 with panelists from Europe:

• Serge Fdida, vice president of international development at Sorbornne University in France
• Matilde Sánchez Fernández, vice-rector of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain
• Sari Lindlom, vice-rector of the University of Helsinki in Finland
• Peter Mathiesson, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland

and July 16 with panelists from Latin America:

• Ignacio Sánchez Díaz, rector of Pontificia Universidad de Católica de Chile
• David Garza, rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico
• Soraya Soubhi Smaili, rector of Universidade Federal de São Paulo in Brazil
