Updated June 29: An update to the release reflects a change in the panelist from India for July 2 and the addition of a panelist from Sorbonne University in France for July 9.
Leaders from universities in New Zealand, India and Japan will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the future of international education in an online forum Thursday, July 2.
The third in a series of five live conversations with educational leaders from about a dozen countries, the panel will include:
- Harlene Hayne, vice-chancellor of the University of Otago in New Zealand
- Yutake Maeda, vice president and dean of the Division of International Affairs at Kansai University in Japan
- C. Raj Kumar, vice chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, India
The series, “The Future of International Education: Leadership Perspectives From Around the World,” is co-hosted by the Institute of International Education, or IIE, and the University of California, Davis. See the series news release.
The regional panel on Asia and Oceania will begin at 6 p.m. PDT (July 3 at 1 a.m. UTC). Allan Goodman, president of the IIE, will moderate the discussion.
The conversations continue July 9 with panelists from Europe:
- Serge Fdida, vice president of international development at Sorbornne University in France
- Matilde Sánchez Fernández, vice-rector of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain
- Sari Lindlom, vice-rector of the University of Helsinki in Finland
- Peter Mathiesson, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland
and July 16 with panelists from Latin America:
- Ignacio Sánchez Díaz, rector of Pontificia Universidad de Católica de Chile
- David Garza, rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico
- Soraya Soubhi Smaili, rector of Universidade Federal de São Paulo in Brazil
The hourlong sessions are open to the public. For each session, advance registration is required and will close when seats are filled. Recordings of the discussions are available on the series webpage.
