To the UC Davis Community:

As many of you know, the University of California Office of the President has been in contract negotiations with several employee unions. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has notified the university of its plans for a three-day strike from 4 a.m. May 7 to 4 a.m. May 10 at all UC campuses.

Following this action, the Office of the President has also received notice that two additional unions plan to support AFSCME through a sympathy strike for a portion of this time. University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) will strike from 4 a.m. May 8 to 4 a.m. May 10, while the California Nurses Association (CNA) plans to strike from 7 a.m. May 8 to 7 a.m. May 10.

I want to assure you that we have contingency plans in place and campus operations will continue during this time. On the Davis campus, you may experience some alterations to traditional schedules; however, Student Health Services will remain open, the veterinary hospital will remain open and dining halls will continue operating, and custodial and maintenance services will be available. UC Davis Health will remain open, though it is possible that some scheduled appointments may be delayed if your medical team determines it is safe to do so. Please keep your appointment as scheduled unless you are asked by your provider to reschedule.

I recognize that this may be an inconvenience, and we will do all we can to manage the inconveniences as we prioritize services during this period. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Kelly Ratliff
Vice Chancellor
Finance, Operations and Administration
