Becky Xu Hua Fu, a fourth-year genetics major from Sacramento, will be presenting at the 23rd annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference on research she did in microbiology professor Wolf-Dietrich Heyer's lab.

April 26-28, Thursday-Saturday -- Two events will showcase the research and creative work of undergraduate, graduate and professional students at the University of California, Davis, from Thursday through Saturday. Both are free and open to the public.

The Interdisciplinary Graduate and Professional Student Symposium opens tonight (April 26) with a poster session and continues Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28, with oral presentations, artwork, performances, student-organized panels and workshops. The symposium takes place at the Activities and Recreation Center.

Symposium goals include fostering interdisciplinary interactions and collaborations among UC Davis graduate and professional students, and offering resources for mentorships and work-life balance, as well as diversity and cross-campus connections.

"Graduate students have the opportunity to explore the legal and business aspects of their research," said Jeffery Gibeling, dean of Graduate Studies. "Professional students have the opportunity to better understand the basic science of the topics in which they‘re interested."

A total of $9,500 will be awarded to winners in four categories.

The second event, the 23rd annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference starts Friday, April 27, with poster presentations and an art exhibition, and continues Saturday, April 28, with oral presentations.

“We’ve always prepared and inspired our students to discover solutions to some of society’s most pressing problems,” said Patricia Turner, vice provost for Undergraduate Education. “The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference gives our students a chance to exhibit the fruits of their research along with a taste of the process of presenting it in a scholarly manner.”

New this year is an art exhibition, allowing students in the creative arts the opportunity to present their work alongside traditional research projects.
