University of California, Davis, Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi will join with women leaders from across the country in honoring the winners of the 2014 Catalyst Awards in New York this week.

Founded in 1962, Catalyst is a leading nonprofit organization focused on expanding opportunities for women and business both in the U.S. and around the world. Through a variety of initiatives, Catalyst conducts research, provides information and advises businesses in creating and supporting diverse and inclusive workplaces.

Each year, Catalyst hosts more than 100 CEOs and 1,500 business leaders at the Catalyst Awards Dinner in a public celebration of the year’s Catalyst Award-winning initiatives. The Catalyst Awards recognize innovative organizational programs with proven, measurable results that promote the recruitment, development and advancement of all women, including diverse women. This year’s honorees are the Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Lockheed Martin.

As a special guest of Catalyst President and CEO Deborah Gillis, Chancellor Katehi will participate in the awards ceremony with other business, academic and nonprofit leaders as part of Catalyst’s efforts to highlight the work of women in major leadership roles.

“For over 50 years, Catalyst has played a leading role in supporting the interests of women in the workplace around the world,” said Chancellor Katehi. “It is an honor to join with colleagues in academe, business and the nonprofit sector in paying tribute to this year’s awardees, and I look forward to sharing the groundbreaking work happening at UC Davis to promote diversity across our institution.”

Since 1987, the Catalyst Award has recognized cutting-edge initiatives that advance women in the workplace. Catalyst Award-winning initiatives are evaluated in a rigorous yearlong process against the following criteria: business rationale, senior leadership support, accountability, communication, employee engagement, innovation and measurable results. Since starting the award, Catalyst has recognized 82 initiatives and 76 organizations from around the world whose groundbreaking diversity and inclusion initiatives have changed workplaces, communities and lives.

UC Davis is a national leader in efforts to promote opportunity in higher education for women and last year was ranked No. 1 nationally in advancing women in STEM by the Online College Database. The first woman to serve as chancellor of UC Davis, Chancellor Katehi is principal investigator of the UC Davis ADVANCE Program, a National Science Foundation-funded initiative aimed at increasing the participation and advancement of women.
