After 30 years of service to UC Davis, Marj Dickinson, assistant chancellor for Government and Community Relations, has decided to retire at the end of December, according to an announcement today (Oct. 16) from Karl Engelbach, associate chancellor and chief of staff, to the Council of Deans and Vice Chancellors.
“Throughout her tenure, Marj has established enduring, credible and effective relationships with local, state and federal elected officials and community opinion-leaders throughout the region,” Engelbach wrote. “She has increased their awareness, understanding and support for UC Davis. She has recruited, supported and empowered staff who bring sophisticated, strategic and diverse experiences, relationships and perspectives to the university.”
He said Mabel Salon, currently director of community relations and local government relations, will provide interim leadership to the Government and Community Relations team as the university reviews the longer-term organizational structure for these functions and activities at both the Davis campus and Sacramento campus.
Milt Lang: New VP of Student Affairs at CSU Chico
Milt Lang, associate vice chancellor of student life, campus community and retention services, is going back to California State University, Chico, his alma mater, as vice president of Student Affairs.
“For those who know Milt and his innumerable achievements, it goes without saying that we will miss his leadership when he leaves UC Davis on January 12,” Adela de la Torre, vice chancellor of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, said in a message to her leadership team today (Oct. 16).
Lang holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from CSU Chico and a doctorate in higher education administration from Washington State University. He was an administrator at Washington State for 19 years (lastly as the senior associate vice president of student affairs and enrollment) before joining UC Davis in 2013.
De la Torre cited Lang’s achievements involving the Student Academic Success Center and the Educational Opportunity Program, First-Year Aggie Connections, and the founding of the campus’s academic retention centers, as well as his work with student activists.
