Super Bowl weekend is super in more ways than one. The day before the football game brings “Super Science Saturday” at UC Davis, a day to see and learn about plants, fossils, native cultures, insects, birds and more in six campus museums and collections, all of them dealing with biodiversity in California and the world.
The organizers describe this event as “a special day to go behind the scenes to learn how research is conducted, and to see some of the curators’ favorite pieces.”
All of the participating museums and collections have active education and outreach programs, but the collections themselves are not always accessible to the public — so this is your chance!
The event’s real name is Biodiversity Museum Day, and this is the second annual. Hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. Admission is free, and no parking fees will be collected for this event. All the collections are inside, so no need to worry about rain.
Maps, signs and guides will be available to help people find their way.
“Visitors are invited to spend time exploring displays, talking with scientists, and participating in fun activities and crafts” a news release states.
Here are the participating museums and collections and their locations:
• Anthropology Museum, Young Hall
• Bohart Museum of Entomology, Academic Surge
• Botanical Conservatory, near the end of Kleiber Hall Drive, off Hutchison Drive
• Geology Museum, Earth and Physical Sciences Building
