Update 10 a.m. Nov. 2: The Staff Assembly tailgate has been moved to the Rec Pool’s covered picnic area, located across Hutchison Drive from the stadium, “due to the possibility of rain.” The closest parking is in Lot 30.
The Aggie football team is returning to Davis this weekend, and it’s the ideal weekend for faculty and staff to take in a game: All employees can receive two free tickets to the game, plus attend a pre-game tailgate sponsored by Staff Assembly.
The Staff Assembly tailgate begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 4) in the covered picnic area of the Rec Pool. Bring a chair or blanket — attendees can enjoy free hot dogs or vegetarian dogs, plus chips, cookies and drinks. Raffles and games will be available, too. This is the fifth annual Staff Assembly tailgate, and the first 150 to arrive at the tailgate will receive free tote bags.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Here’s how to claim two free lawn seats to Saturday’s football game:
- Visit goagspromo.com
- Enter the code AGGIESTAFF

The game against Portland State carries several themes: Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day, Parents and Family Day and High School Band Day.
Marching bands from surrounding schools are set to perform at halftime, while attendees of the day’s youth dance/cheer clinic will perform earlier in the game (Tickets to that event are still available: Visit goagspromo.com and enter the code AGGIETTE).
The game will also feature its own version of a Picnic Day staple: the Doxie Derby. The race, scheduled to be held before the start of the fourth quarter, will feature tiny dogs racing from the 30-yard-line to the end zone. This is the third year a mini Doxie Derby has been part of a UC Davis football game, and space is still available for four-legged participants.
Parents and family will sit in a dedicated section — information on how to purchase those tickets is available on the Cal Aggie Alumni Association website. Those parents and family members have a full weekend of events planned, including an opening reception, tours, art activities, a pizza party and live music, a brunch at Segundo Dining Commons and more. The complete schedule is available online.
This is one of two remaining regular season home games for the football team, which is coming off a loss at Northern Arizona University last week that nevertheless saw some players post career-bests. The Aggies close out the regular season at home with the Causeway Classic and Salute to Heroes game against the Hornets on Nov. 18 at UC Davis Health Stadium.
