May 24, Monday, and May 25, Tuesday -- Combining diet and exercise for good health will be the topic of a public lecture by George A. Brooks, professor and director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory at UC Berkeley, May 24 at 4:10 p.m. in Room 180, Medical Sciences Building C on the UC Davis campus. Brooks was a member of an expert panel that produced the 2002 report "Dietary Reference Intakes for Energy, Physical Activity, Carbohydrate, Fiber, Fat, Fatty Acids, Cholesterol, Protein and Amino Acids," for the Institute of Medicine, part of the National Academies of Science. The report included the recommendation of 60 minutes of moderate exercise a day for all adults and children. On May 25, Brooks will give a seminar on "Exercise Substrate Utilization: The Crossover Concept," also at 4:10 p.m. in the same location. The public lecture is the first of a series established in memory of the late Paul Molé, professor of exercise science at UC Davis. Both events are sponsored by the Paul Molé Endowment Fund.
