Three presentations are coming up in the Focus on Women and the Environment speaker series. They are updates on the environmental justice movement and on transportation and air pollution, along with a light look at consumers and Earth-friendly alternative products.

The speaker series is a program of the Consortium for Women and Research at UC Davis, which is dedicated to the support of research by and on women and on gender in its multiple intersections with race, class, sexual and national identity.

The coming events are:

• Wednesday, Feb. 15: "The Environmental Justice Movement: Where It Is and Where It Needs to Go." Activists from three of California's environmental justice organizations will discuss the origin and importance of the environmental justice framework, the significance of grassroots organizing, and where the California environmental justice movement is and needs to go. University Club Lounge, 4-6 p.m.
• Thursday, Feb. 23: "Transportation, Air Pollution, and Environmental Justice: Who Breathes What?" Deb Niemeier, professor of civil and environmental engineering, will discuss environmental justice issues associated with mitigating the effects of transportation on air quality. Garrison Room, Memorial Union, noon-1:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, March 1: "Blue Vinyl: A Toxic Comedy." Julie Sze, assistant professor of American studies, will lead a film screening and discussion. "Blue Vinyl" tells of filmmaker Judith Helfand's odyssey to learn about polyvinyl chloride (PVC) when her parents decide to put vinyl siding on their house. University Club Lounge, 4-6 p.m.
