Oct. 22 Horse Day offers tours, demonstrations and hands-on activities

Oct. 22, Saturday — Horse Day at UC Davis, a tradition since the early 1980s, will take on a new, interactive look this year as participants join in a variety of tours, demonstrations and hands-on opportunities.

Activities will include a horse barn tour, draft-horse hitching instruction and wagon rides, and demonstrations of saddle fitting, horse and mule training, artificial insemination, horseshoeing and equine-assisted learning.

Horse Day is open to the public; registration costs $25 per person, $20 per person for groups of 10 or more, and $10 for children age 14 and under.

The day is coordinated by the UC Davis Department of Animal Science and will be held at the horse barn and arena on La Rue Road between Bioletti Way and California Avenue. Presenters will include UC Davis and Stanford University instructors as well as experts from the equine community.

A complete schedule for the day and mail-in registration forms are available at: http://animalscience.ucdavis.edu/horsebarn/. Contact: Valerie Ozella, Department of Animal Science, (530) 752-1250,
