Pianist Emanuel Ax performs in the Concert Series at 8 p.m. Dec. 5, in Jackson Hall. Ax received Grammy awards for the second and third volumes of his cycle of Haydn’s piano sonatas and joined Yo-Yo Ma on a series of Grammy-winning recordings of the Beethoven and Brahms sonatas for cello and piano.

His program:

• Chopin — Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61; Three Mazurkas, Op. 56; Four Mazurkas, Op. 41; and Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise brillante, Op.22.

• Schumann — Fantasy, Op.17, and Fantasiestücke, Op.12.

Violinist Jenny Scheinman returns to the Mondavi Center as a headliner, performing in the Studio Jazz Series Dec. 8-11 in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.

She played the Mondavi Center last year with Bill Frisell’s Disfarmer Project: Musical Portraits from Heber Springs.

For her forthcoming concerts at the Mondavi Center, Scheinman will be joined by Bay Area pianist Myra Melford, assistant professor of music at UC Berkeley.

Each concert in Scheinman’s four-night run is set to begin at 8. Ticket availability is limited for Dec. 11; contact the box office for more information.

Pianist Gleb Ivanov performs in the Debut Series, at 8 p.m. Dec. 12 and 2 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre. Ivanov studied with Mstislav Rostropovich and performed with the famous maestro as soloist with the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ivanov’s program for his Mondavi Center concerts:

• Schubert — Gutte Nacht (from Winterreise), Ave Maria and Sonata in D Major, D. 850

• Tchaikovsky — Two selections from The Seasons: Barcarolle (June) and Christmas (December).

• Prokofiev — Sonata No. 7, Op. 63.
