July 5 -- Marine science expert Susan Williams, director of the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory, will participate in a news conference held by U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) to discuss their legislation to expand the boundaries of the Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries. The bill (S. 880 and H.R. 1712) would enlarge the sanctuaries to include the Sonoma Coast. It also would protect more of California's coastal areas from offshore oil and gas drilling. Also scheduled to attend: Sonoma County Supervisor Mike Reilly; Zeke Grader, director of the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations; and Richard Charter of the National Outer Continental Shelf Coalition. The news conference is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, at the Gulf of the Farallones Marine Sanctuary Office, Building 991, Marine Drive, West Crissy Field Beach, San Francisco.
