The first of two Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Global Forums this year is scheduled for Aug. 20 at the International House in Davis.

Organizers said fellows will address topics that come from the speakers' home countries: "Current Status of e-Government in Bangladesh," "Empowering Women in Nampula Province in Mozambique Through Well-Planned Infrastructure," "Baghdad Before and After the Bombing of 2003" and "The Nabucco Pipeline Project: Emphasizing the Geo-Political Significance of Turkey."

The event is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room at I-House, 10 College Park. A welcome reception follows.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished, mid-career professionals from designated countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Eurasia to the United States for a year of graduate study and related professional experience.

President Carter instituted the Humphrey Fellowship Program in 1978 to honor Hubert Humphrey, the late senator and vice president who was a long-time advocate of international cooperation and understanding. UC Davis Extension has hosted Humphrey Fellows for the past 15 summers for their preacademic orientation and training program.

Fourteen other Humphrey Fellows are due to speak at the second Global Forum, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 2, also at the I-House.
