* Oct. 6, Saturday -- Horse enthusiasts will join veterinarians and other horse professionals for a daylong meeting focused on horse behavior. The Equine Behavior Symposium 2001, coordinated by the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, will include both classroom talks and hands-on demonstrations. Speakers will include Robert M. Miller, a Southern California veterinarian who has written extensively on horse behavior; Sophia Yin, a veterinary behaviorist and columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle; and UC Davis veterinary professor Sharon Spier, who has served as an Olympic veterinarian. Demonstrations of techniques for handling problem horses will be held in the afternoon. The symposium talks will be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in 170 Schalm Hall, followed by lunch and then demonstrations from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the circular pens on Garrod Drive, south of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Tuition, which includes the course syllabus and lunch, is $145.
