Former President Bill Clinton appeared at a campaign rally on behalf of four Democratic congressional candidates at UC Davis on Tuesday (Oct. 9).
“It is really good to be back,” Clinton said before a crowd of between 8,000 to 10,000 on the Quad. “I love this campus, I love it every time I come. I appreciate the things you are doing here today, and I thank Chancellor Katehi for meeting me when I came in.”
In his speech, Clinton threw his support behind incumbent Reps. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, congressional hopefuls Ami Bera and Jose Hernandez, and President Barack Obama. This was Clinton's third visit to the Davis campus.
"You are on the best campus of the University of California," said Garamendi, who served under Clinton as deputy secretary of the Department of the Interior. Three of Garamendi's six children attended UC Davis.
The rally was sponsored by the Davis College Democrats and the California Democratic Party as local elections officials begin to distribute vote-by-mail ballots for the Nov. 6 election.
