FOOD, ETC.: Wednesday Night Wine Flights, East Quad Farmers Market

WEDNESDAY NIGHT WINE FLIGHTS: The first Wednesday of the month brings the Wednesday Night Wine Flight, held at the Gunrock Pub and co-sponsored by the pub and the Cal Aggie Alumni Association’s Vintage Aggies Wine Club.

Here is the schedule through the end of the year:

Oct. 7 — Gold Country Wine. Organizers said the western Sierra foothills are home to small and distinctive wineries that specialize in full-bodied reds and distinctive white wines.

Nov. 4 — Wines to Pair With the Holidays. “This can be difficult when the menu runs the gamut from prime rib to roast turkey to cranberry sauce to candied yams. Join us as we present some wines that we think will complement your feast.”

Dec. 2 — European Holiday Traditions. In Italy, the Feast of the Seven Fishes is likely to be accompanied by a crisp pinot grigio. In Spain, your holiday meal of jamon, queso y chorizo is likely to be accompanied by a smooth rioja. This tasting will feature four wines that fit the season.

The wine tastings are scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10, and no reservations are needed. The Gunrock Pub is on the south side of the Silo.

EAST QUAD FARMERS MARKET: The East Quad Farmers Market is in full swing for the fall quarter. Look for the market in its new location, still on the East Quad but on the north side (closer to the Memorial Union), from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Wednesday through Nov. 18 (except Veterans Day, Nov. 11).

Health Education and Promotion, a unit of Student Health Services, coordinates the market during fall and spring quarters, offering a convenient shopping place for students, staff and faculty who might not otherwise have the time to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables.
