NEW THIS WEEK

Tehama County Photo Club — Eleven members are exhibiting a total of 23 photos during April and May at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.

Visual Sovereignty: International Indigenous Photography — Featuring the works of 35 Native American, First Nations, Inuit, Aboriginal and Maori artists. Through Sept. 4, C.N. Gorman Museum. Reception, 5 p.m. April 3, with the Sho-Ka-Wah-Ke dance group from Hopland; also, the Native American Student Union will serve Indian tacos. A related conference is scheduled April 4-5.

The African American Journey Towards Freedom and Equality, 1619-2009: A Tale Told in Black and White Books, pamphlets and documents from the African American History Collection and other research collections that are housed in the university library’s Special Collections. Lobby, Shields Library.

Selections from the Collection: Frank Van Sloun, American realist painter associated with the Ash Can School of New York, early 20th century — From the UC Davis Fine Art Collection. Through April 19 (Picnic Day weekend), Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.

Sheng High — Sound sculptor and composer Trimpin updates his installation based on the sheng, a 2,000-year-old Chinese instrument, a reeded bamboo flute. Through May 17, Nelson Gallery.
