The UC Davis women's rugby team has returned from Georgia with a second-straight spring championship. Both Aggie club rugby teams went all the way to the championship games at the USA Rugby College 15s National Championships at Life University last weekend, and both faced opponents from the same university.
The men's team missed out on a 3-peat D1AA national championship, falling to Notre Dame College. The women's game was a different story, with the Aggies beating the Falcons 27-19.
The Aggie women won last year's spring championship in the final seconds.
“It feels 10 times better when you do it twice,” coach Gary Gordon told The Rugby Breakdown of this year's win.
Even before their win this weekend, the women's team was selected to compete in the USA Rugby College 7s national championship, to be held later this month.

Paying pizza forward
Aggies are helping Aggies in more ways than one. The Pantry, an ASUCD program that provides food to students in need, is getting support from people grabbing lunch on campus.
Learn about the pay it forward program at the CoHo's Ciao eatery in the above video, the latest installment in the weekly video series #UCDavisLife.
Nearly 2,000 Aggies stride, raise funds for student support
Aggies also helped the less fortunate by hitting the pavement. About 1,900 people ran and walked to raise money for programs that benefit students at the annual Stride for Aggie Pride 5K April 30. The event, which benefits We Are Aggie Pride and ASUCD's tuition awards, raised about $17,000, organizers said.
