Curtis on Tour, young performers from Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, is coming to the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts for the second year in a row—and the schedule once again includes an advance concert, free and open to the public, at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
The Sacramento concert, including excerpts from Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale), is set for 3:30 p.m. March 20 in the auditorium of the Cancer Center, 4501 X St. Organizers said parking will be free in Lot 4 with validation. The UC Davis Health System and the Mondavi Center are co-sponsors.
Curtis on Tour’s ticketed concerts in the Mondavi Center’s Studio Theatre are scheduled for 8 p.m. March 21 and 2 p.m. March 22. Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat is on the program for both of these concerts, along with David Ludwig’s From the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.
L’Histoire du Soldat, musically vivid, touching and humorous, is based on a Russian folk tale about a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil and soon regrets it.
Due to perform with the young musicians are Curtis alumnus Alex Kerr on violin and Philadelphia Orchestra bassist Hal Robinson.
A school matinee is scheduled for 11 a.m. March 20. Educators interested in purchasing tickets should call (530) 754-4689.
