Feb. 9, Monday -- Patricia A. Turner, professor of African American and African Studies and vice provost for undergraduate studies at UC Davis, will talk about her new book, "Crafted Lives: Stories and Studies of African American Quilters," at a book-signing event on Monday, Feb. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Gunrock Pub on campus.

Published by the University Press of Mississippi on Jan. 1, the book profiles nine quilters and explores the ways in which they and their craft embody African American culture. Turner is the author of three previous books: "Whispers on the Color Line: Rumor and Race in America," co-written with Gary Allan Fine; "Ceramic Uncles and Celluloid Mammies: Black Images and Their Influence on Culture"; and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine: Rumor in African American Culture."
