Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi today (Nov. 14) issued the following statement:

On behalf of the UC Davis community, I want to express our deepest sympathy to the French people and the victims of the terrible attacks of Friday, November 13. I also extend our condolences to the California State University, Long Beach, community and the family of Nohemi Gonzalez, reported to be among the dead.

Our campus has many connections with France, both through academic collaborations and personal ties of family and friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Paris and all those in our community who have been impacted by these despicable acts.

All UC Davis students currently studying in France are accounted for and safe. Faculty are safe as well. The UC Education Abroad Program is monitoring the situation and updates can be found at http://eap.ucop.edu/EmergencyResponseAlerts/Pages/default.aspx.

For students, faculty, staff and visitors at UC Davis, we have resources available for anyone who may be in need. For students, the Student Health and Wellness Center has counselors available 24 hours a day by phone at (530) 752-2349. Our university is a community where people of many different faiths, traditions and backgrounds can come together, exchange ideas and work alongside one another. We will always stand strong against hatred and violence in all its forms.
