IN BRIEF: New Web sites for Campus Rec, bee biology

2 new Web sites

Campus Recreation has retooled its Web site for better outreach and to integrate with the department's soon-to-be launched online registration program Bridges to Health, a collaborative effort among rec programs at UC Davis, UC Berkeley and UCLA.

Credit for the new UC Davis sites goes to marketing coordinator Dwayne Carter, IT specialist Todd Perez and student staff.

In other news, Campus Rec announced that it is replacing its 64-page quarterly Recreation Guide with an 11-inch-by-17-inch trifold document. Campus Rec also offers a newsletter by e-mail.

The Department of Entomology has unveiled a Web site for the department's Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility.

“Our new Web site will allow us to provide information to the public about bees, answer questions, and highlight our studies and discoveries about bees and their importance in the environment,” said Lynn Kimsey, professor and vice chair of the  Department of Entomology, and coordinator of activities at the Laidlaw facility.

The Web site includes sections on research, outreach, publications, news, events, faculty and researchers, honeybees, native bees, pollination, instruction and the forthcoming Häagen-Dazs Honey Bee Haven, as well as frequently asked questions (and answers), a photo gallery and videos, kids zone and links to other bee reference sources throughout the world.

“The Web site will be content rich,” said communication specialist Kathy Keatley Garvey, editor, photographer and Web developer. “We’ll be expanding the content to offer the most informative, up-to-date information about honeybees and other bees.”
