May 12 — Redefining Soul Food: The Politics and Pleasures of Food and Eating in Black Communities, with eco-chef and food activist Bryant Terry (author of Vegan Soul Kitchen), and more generally about the politics of food production and consumption in the United States, noon-1:30 p.m., Sensory Theatre, Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science; History of Stepping, about the importance, originality and culture of stepping as an art form, 7-9 p.m., MU II.
May 13 — Safe Zone: Redefining the Black Queer Community, noon-1:30 p.m., Smith Room, MU; The Meanings of Obama, panel, exploring some of the historical, social, political and cultural meanings of Barack Obama as the first African American president of the United States, 7 p.m., MU II. The Obama panel: Professors Nicki King, Lisa Materson, Halifu Osumare and Pat Turner. Followed by a question-and-answer session, and a reception.
May 14 — Excellence Without Compromise: Upholding Godly Standards, 7-9 p.m., 147 Olson Hall.
