Another addition to the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts’ 2012-13 season brings another opportunity for staff, faculty and students to buy tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
The head start runs from Thursday through Saturday (July 12 to 14) for Hamlet, to be performed by Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour. The Mondavi Center announced 8 p.m. performances Thursday and Friday, Nov. 1 and 2, as well as a school matinee on Nov. 2.
The head start applies only to the nighttime performances. Staff and faculty will received their usual 10 percent discount on single-event tickets, and students will receive their usual 50 percent discount.
Shakespeare’s Globe reinvents Elizabethan touring theater for the 21st century. Using stage design inspired by images from the time, the Globe’s players re-create all the fun and excitement of early theater.
Indeed, the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall is ideally configured to catch the nuances of one of the Bard’s great dramas. Featuring some of Shakespeare’s best known speeches, this pared-down production of Hamlet brilliantly captures the corrupting influence of power, the intensity of young love and the passion of a wronged man.
If you are staff, faculty or student, and you are taking advantage of the head start this week, be advised that you must make your purchases by phone or in person, and you will be asked for UC Davis identification or e-mail address. The box office is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone orders: (530) 754-2787 or (866) 754-2787.
Starting Sunday, July 15, when tickets are available to everyone, purchases can be made by phone, in person and online.
The Mondavi Center advised people to make their purchases early, because tickets for Hamlet — as happens with other “just added” events — are likely to sell out quickly.
Subscription sales for the Mondavi Center’s 10th anniversary season are under way. Single tickets for all other 2012-13 performances are set to go on sale on Friday, Aug. 10.
