UC Agriculture and Natural Resources will move 150 employees from a number of UC Davis buildings, into a single structure — a former indoor roller hockey rink — in east Davis.

The old Davis Indoor Sports Center, or DISC, at 2801 Second St., between downtown and the Target store, will become the administrative home for four of ANR’s statewide programs: Integrated Pest Management; the Office of Pesticide Information and Coordination; Master Gardener; and Youth, Families and Communities (including 4-H Youth Development, and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education).

The new administration center will also serve ANR’s nine research and extension centers up and down the state, and network of Cooperative Extension advisers in 57 of the state’s 58 counties.

“With our administrative and statewide program staff co-located in one building in Davis, we will be able to work more efficiently to meet the needs of Californians statewide,” said Barbara Allen-Diaz, UC vice president for ANR.

Employees will move from the DANR (Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources) Service Building and nearby trailers on Hopkins Road, west of Highway 113; the Agricultural Field Station (a building and a temporary building) near The Domes at the northwest corner of the central campus; the Robbins Hall Annex; and a leased office building at 1850 Research Park Drive.

Space planners in Administrative and Resource Management said the campus is considering options for reusing the vacant space. The ANR employees are expected to be in their new building by year’s end.

ANR’s Agricultural Issues Center (Hunt Hall) and the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (Robbins Hall) will stay where they are.

Also, ANR will maintain its presence at the UC Office of the President in Oakland. The UC vice president for ANR works there, along with central business operations and development services.

ANR announced that it will buy the 33,000-square-foot Second Street building and renovate it in a project that will add a partial second floor of 9,600 square feet. Construction is expected to start in April.

Allen-Diaz said the renovated interior will meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, for energy savings that will add to the economic benefits to be gained from the office consolidation.
