Got your ticket to the Aggies football game at Cal on Sept. 4?

How are you getting there? The athletics department previously announced a bus caravan (four so far), and now the department has announced a train fare discount.

Also, there is more than football in store for Aggie fans in Berkeley:

• The men’s water polo team is set to take on Cal at the Spieker Aquatics Complex at 10 a.m., three hours before the football game.

• And, the night before, the Cal Aggie Alumni Association is hosting a wine tasting at the Berkeley City Club. See the details below.

The football game is the first between the UC Davis and Cal varsities in 71 years. The Aggies will be wearing their white jerseys, and fans are asked to wear white as well, said Scott Brayton, assistant athletic director for Marketing.

“UC Davis and Cal have the same colors, and the Cal fans will be in blue,” he said. “Normally we ask our fans to wear blue, but for this game we’re asking our fans to wear white, so we can stand out.”

A white, UC Davis football T-shirt went on sale this week at the main campus bookstore and the Pro Shop inside the Activities and Recreation Center. The price is $14.95.

The shirts also are available online; click on "Clothing," then "Shirts."                                                

They will also be sold at the Blue-Gold Scrimmage set for 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Aggie Stadium (free admission) and, if there are any left, during the pregame celebration at Cal.

UC Davis has sold its allotment of 5,000 game tickets. Some of those (maybe 20 or so) were still available as of midweek through Sports Fan Express, which is selling them as part of the $95 Gold Package: bus transportation, pregame celebration and game ticket. Click here or call (530) 757-2599.

If you still want tickets, and don’t want the Gold Package, or if Sports Fan Express sells out of the Gold Package, you will need to go through the Cal ticket office. Be sure to ask for seating close to the other 5,000 Aggie fans — in the Blue Zone.

Pregame celebration for all

No matter where you buy your tickets, or where you sit, or how you get to the game, you are all invited to the Aggies pregame celebration on Memorial Glade in the heart of the Cal campus.

The athletics department has moved up the starting time to 9 a.m. The celebration is scheduled to continue until noon, at which time the Aggie contingent is invited to march to Memorial Stadium for the 1 p.m. kickoff.

Organizers said they sold approximately 1,000 tickets for the pregame party (including food and beverages) by the Aug. 20 deadline. But, even if you missed out, you are still welcome to attend and buy individual food items and beverages.

Capitol Corridor discount

If you choose to take the train, the Capitol Corridor line is offering a 20 percent discount on fares to and from Richmond. Once you get to Richmond, you simply walk to the adjacent BART station, for the ride to downtown Berkeley. Then you can walk to the stadium or take a free shuttle.

The athletics department plans to have ambassadors on board Train No. 729 (scheduled to depart from Davis at 9:25 a.m.) to make sure Aggie fans have an easy travel day.
