UC Davis is alerting the public to beware of a scam in which people are soliciting donations door-to-door in Greater Sacramento for the university's marching band and students in two of its academic departments.
Neither the band, the Department of Music nor the Department of Theatre and Dance is raising funds in support of a trip to London, and they do not solicit money door to door, representatives said.
Sacramento State issued a similar alert on Tuesday.
Several individuals have called UC Davis to inquire about fundraising requests. They report being asked for money to support a trip to London for either the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh! or students in the departments of Music or Theatre and Dance.
UC Davis authorities are advising the public to contact their local law enforcement agency with any information regarding the fraudulent fundraising requests.
People interested in donating to the California Aggie Marching Band-uh! may contact Thomas Slabaugh II, director of the band at UC Davis, at (530) 752-9239 or slabaugh@ucdavis.edu.
Slabaugh said the band has a fundraising event scheduled for Thursday, June 2, at the Recreation Pool on campus, but tickets are available only at the door.
Those interested in donating to the departments of Music or Theatre and Dance may give online through http://giving.ucdavis.edu, or mail their contributions directly to the Department of Theatre and Dance or the Department of Music at UC Davis, One Shields Ave., Davis, CA 95616. The contact for the Department of Music is Phil Daley at http://giving.ucdavis.edu/areas_to_support.html.
