Chancellor Gary S. May issued the following statement today (April 6):
Thank you to the Sacramento City Council for its approval of Aggie Square’s Community Benefits Partnership Agreement (CBPA) this evening. This is a milestone for Aggie Square that will bring real innovation to our region, through jobs, workforce development, housing, industry, and new opportunities for students, faculty and staff. The city council set us on this path last October, when it adopted the resolution of intention for establishing the Aggie Square Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District.
I celebrate the passing of this landmark agreement with UC Davis, the city of Sacramento and Wexford Science & Technology. Each of us has a real stake in this partnership and making sure it succeeds.
I also want to express my sincere appreciation to the community and neighbors who helped shape the CBPA. Your participation in more than 90 community and stakeholder meetings led us to forge this commitment to providing jobs and job training, affordable housing, better transportation options, youth education programs, among other benefits.
Finally, I want to thank the Aggie Square team here at UC Davis who has worked so diligently since 2017 to move this project forward in a way that is collaborative and with ideas that will resonate for years to come. This milestone is a great example of the university’s ongoing commitment to its public service mission.
There will be more to celebrate. We’ll now look forward to seeing Aggie Square come to life as the game-changer we’ve all worked so hard to realize.
