Reshaping Human Resources
As the result of a strategic review, HR organizations on the Davis and Sacramento campuses are now operating jointly under the leadership of Associate Vice Chancellor Susan Gilbert, who joined UC Davis as head of Davis campus Human Resources in June 2012.
The recently concluded review of HR activities across the university led to a “future state” design, announced in May, based on several key strategies, including:
- Creating a cohesive HR organization
- Providing streamlined access to HR services
- Improving communication about HR processes and issues
This summer, the Davis and Sacramento HR organizations are engaged in a strategic planning process with a goal of designing a single, high-performing organization equipped to help UC Davis attract and support the work force that will make the 2020 Initiative plan a success.

Licensing Academy held
UC Davis recently hosted its third annual Licensing Academy on intellectual property management, a two-week course for lawyers, technology managers and scientific professionals from abroad. The course assists the participants in promoting licensing and commercialization of research and development in their countries.
The 40 people in this year’s course came from 17 countries in Latin America, South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the West Indies.
The academy is presented by the School of Law; the UC Davis-based Pubic Intellectual Property Resource for Agriculture, or PIPRA; and UC Davis Extension. A number of campus faculty and staff from the Office of Research, the Graduate School of Management and UC Davis Innovation Access also participated.
“The UC Davis School of Law and UC Davis Extension have been thrilled to partner with Alan Bennett and PIPRA in bringing to campus this important international program that strengthens intellectual property protections and nurtures entrepreneurship and economic development in emergent countries,” said Beth Greenwood, executive director for International Programs at the School of Law, and associate dean for the Center for International Education at UC Davis Extension.
