June 4, Friday — A new mural produced by the UC Davis Chicana/o Studies Mural Workshop project will be unveiled during a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. at the TANA community art center, 1224 Lemen Ave., Woodland. The 8-by-40-foot mural is destined for the nearby Pacific Coast Producers Cannery.

The reception also will introduce a new exhibit of mural drawings produced in the Chicana/o studies workshop over the past 30 years. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Chicana/o Studies at (530) 752-2421.

The TANA center, conceived and operated by the UC Davis Department of Chicana/o Studies, opened in December in a former Yolo County Housing warehouse that was renovated with $342,000 in federal grants. It is located across the street from a large subsidized housing neighborhood and is designed to inspire local youth and reinforce culture through silk-screening, mural painting and other classes.
