Four speakers are due to discuss governance, tax reform and constitutional reform in a series titled Meltdown: Institutional Challenges Facing California. The Institute of Governmental Affairs is presenting the series during the noon hour on Wednesdays. The programs are free and open to the public.

Sept. 30 — Daniel Weintraub, Opinion pages columnist, The Sacramento Bee: “Governing California —Is It Possible?” (The printed edition of Dateline lists an incorrect date for this program.)

Oct. 14 — State Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, whose district takes in all of Yolo County, and parts of Sacramento, Solano and San Joaquin counties: “Meltdown — A Legislator’s Perspective.”

Oct. 28­ — Economics professor Steven Sheffrin: “California Tax Reform — The Commission and Its Aftermath.”

Nov. 4 — Mark DiCamillo, director, California Field Poll: “California Views of Constitutional Reform — The Results of the Latest Field Poll.”

All seminars are scheduled from 12:10 to 1 p.m. in in the IGA Reading Room, 360 Shields Library.

OPEN HOUSE: The Institute of Governmental Affairs is hosting an open house on Sept. 25 to welcome the institute’s new director, Professor Robert Huckfeldt, chair of the Department of Political Science. The open house is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. in the IGA Reading Room, 360 Shields Library.
